Student Loan FAQ
  1. I need a Student Loan to help supplement my income while I attend school. How do I apply?
The application process for Alberta students can be found at Alberta Student Aid or contact the EvelineCharles Academy Admissions Team.
  2. If I take a Student Loan how will I pay for school and graduate without a huge debt?
Student Loans are meant to supplement your income – not replace it.  It is important to borrow wisely and never borrow more than needed. It is essential that you live within your means and live a simple life. Plan your finances to avoid added stress and always plan your loan repayment. A part time job while studying would allow you to start making payments right away which would help reduce your debt when you graduate.
  3. Can I speed up my Student Loan repayment?
Yes you can by making lump sum payments or increase your monthly payment amount at any time during the term of your loan. The extra amounts will reduce the principal of your loan and thus the amount of interest you will pay over time.
  4. What if I am unable to make my monthly payments?
Contact the Alberta Student Aid through the Repayment Assistance Plan. If you are eligible, this program will allow you to make affordable payments based on gross family income and family size.
  5. What happens if I don’t repay my Student Loan or Miss Payments?
Repaying a student loan is NOT optional, it must be repaid and it will never go away. If you don’t repay your Student Loan then you could face the following consequences :
    • Your wages could be garnisheed without your consent
    • Loss of eligibility for debt management programs
    • Loss of eligibility for any or all future Student Loan funding
    • Extra interest charges applied to your current loan debt
    • You could loose your tax refunds and tax rebates
    • Bad credit rating and inability to get credit (to buy a car, house, or rent an apartment, etc)
    • Pursued by a collection agency
    • Liens could be placed against your personal properties

If you have concerns about making repayments, it is best to contact someone as soon as possible to discuss your options. Call the National Student Loans Office at 1 888 815-4514, contact the Alberta Provincial Student Assistance Office, or reach out to our Admissions Office for assistance and advice.
